5 Things to Consider Post-Installation: As Told by Our Senior Field Service Engineer

Things to Consider Post-Installation

In most cases, when you purchase a product, that becomes the end of your interaction with the seller. But, that’s not how we do business. That’s because we understand that our laser solutions require continuous maintenance to perform optimally — so we go above and beyond to ensure your business has what it needs to operate safely and efficiently. When you purchase a laser solution from Adapt Laser, we’ll send out our senior field service engineers to get you set up and ready to operate.

5 THINGS YOU NEED POST-INSTALLATION

1. POWER CHECK

Our laser solutions come in a variety of powers — ranging from 200 to 1600 watts. So, when you’ve purchased one of our laser solutions, the first thing we do is ensure that it has the proper power it needs to operate efficiently. The exact wattage specs that you need are considered during our sales process, so this quality check typically goes without a hitch. However, should you not understand what size wattage you need, we may find that the power source is not strong enough or is too strong for your laser solution.

2. LASER SYSTEM CHECK

Once plugged in, we’ll check that every aspect of the laser is ready for operations — from the window protection to the cord used to plug it in. We’ll inspect every element to make sure nothing is damaged, that everything is put together properly, and that it’s ready to be operated. Our solutions are typically delivered problem-free, but accidents in transport can happen and should be replaced or repaired before operating.

3. LASER TESTING

Once we’ve ensured your laser is fully operational, then it’s a matter of testing the application and making sure it operates the same way it did during application testing. This involves using your solution with your product to see if it cleans as well as it did during testing in our lab. Sometimes the change in the environment can impact the effectiveness of our laser solution. That’s why the environment is another aspect considered during our sales process. In most cases, our laser works similarly to how it did in our lab — but on the off chance it doesn’t, we’ll need to make tweaks before further operating.

4. SAFETY TRAINING

The most important stage of our post-installation visit is providing safety training to your team and operators. Laser ablation is one of the safest forms of cleaning — but only if safety requirements are properly followed. Unlike media blasting options, our laser solutions don’t require a secondary cleaning process, a full protective suit, or gloves in order to operate. In fact, our solutions only require:

  • Eye protection
  • A designated hazard zone
  • Training and education

In some cases, a fixed enclosure negates the need for eye protection — since the window itself acts as a protective barrier. But, it’s critical that your team not only knows how to operate the laser properly but also knows about the dangers that it can cause if safety precautions aren’t followed. When operating, anyone with unprotected eyes walking past is in danger, which is why cleaning must take place behind closed doors, within a pre-setup optical hazard zone, or in a fixed enclosure.

In addition to safety precautions, we’ll also teach your team how to operate your new solution. This training includes:

  • How your laser solution works
  • How your laser solution functions
  • How to change parameters for different ablations

5. MAINTENANCE

As with any major application, your laser solution needs daily, monthly, and yearly maintenance. Post-installation, we’ll teach you what needs to be cleaned and maintained on a daily basis, how to do it yourself, and what to look for to prevent damage to your application and product. Maintenance includes:

  • How to clean the optics/lens
  • How to change desiccant packs
  • How to change the protection window
  • How to drain/refill the chiller and replace the water filter
  • And more

We understand that some maintenance aspects are too difficult or time-consuming to do on your own. That’s why we continuously offer support packages that accommodate your needs and come with our expertise for your more difficult maintenance items.
